Warm . . . TOO Warm

Today there was an article in the Free Press entitled “Hot Enough for You?” and I can’t agree more. It’s disconcerting - this is NOT a January thaw. It hasn’t frozen yet, and it’s lasting too long, and my flowers are seriously confused (some of my bulbs are actually peeking ever so slightly thru the soil I noticed a half hour ago). I stepped outside to put out the mail this morning . . . and I came back in and said to Steve “it feels like a rainy June day out there - how warm is it?” and truly it was just shy of 60 degrees. He’s taken the kids (but one) off to the park with a PBJ picnic lunch in sweatshirts to play (in the mud of course). Jonathan still has a cold and a double ear infection we discovered yesterday so we thought it better for me to let him run around the backyard for a short time so we did (hence the flower discovery). I do need to go put the skis and sleds away from our time in Stowe (where the snow that fell on Sunday - the first real snow of the year even up there! - did fortunately last until we left Thursday - prior to the Friday rains and continued 40-50 degree spell we had all week - the freezing rain on Monday did somewhat melt the 8 inches of perfect fluffy white stuff to a crusty slippery mess. Great for sledding though not so good for skiing. Anyway, it’s been a weird winter so far. Not very wintery. This is just wrong for January. Thaws are different. We want winter, and then we’ll enjoy a thaw!
