Growing Bigger
Viruses and colds have plagued many people this past month in our corner of the world, including everyone in our family. Elizabeth and Emily have had fevers; Matthew, Emily, and Elizabeth have had really runny noses; Steve, Emily, Jonathan and I have had coughs; several of us have had sore throats; and all but Matthew have been congested and stuffed up in general (and we’re not over it yet, though we’re hoping, perhaps prematurely, that we’re on the mend). We even got Grandma Cook sick while she was visiting last week. Emily’s teacher was sick last week and tried to come in on Friday but ended up going home early. Our nutritionist and physical therapist were not immune either and they’ve called in sick, leading to rescheduling visits more than once. Even Steve’s boss was sick last week, and she doesn’t have young children at home.
Our PT made it here last week (it had been almost four weeks!) and Elizabeth’s progress is great; good balance, walking well, running a little. We’ve got our new tasks to practice (including stepping up and down and over things, for example). Elizabeth just loves these visits and thoroughly enjoys performing for the PT. We make the most of it, naturally, to get her to stretch and try new things.
We finally connected with Elizabeth’s nutritionist this morning (our original visit was supposed to be a month ago and we rescheduled at least twice!). Elizabeth weighs 20 lbs., 1 oz. She is doing quite well on her “adjusted” curve. She continues to “gain on the curve” too, meaning that she is not only gaining an appropriate amount, but is gaining a little extra which may in time lead her to catch up with where she would have been on the curve had she never failed to gain weight last year (which was about the 3rd percentile). In any case, she’s healthy and doing fine. We can now officially turn her car seat around (she’s finally at least 20 pounds AND a year old!). Of course, we did this several months ago when we thought she was safely 20 lbs clothed and in her winter coat, shoes, etc. Besides, we needed her seat for Jonathan! But it’s nice to know we’ve finally attained that benchmark.
As to Jonathan, who is now two months old, we put him on the scale too. He weighed in at 12 pounds, 14 ounces and this was prior to his eating his breakfast so he was on empty. That means he’s 13+ pounds most of the time! Wow - what a big boy! And to think Elizabeth was 15 pounds at 12 months.
For the record, Matthew was 43 lbs. (We wouldn’t want to leave anyone out!)

You left out Emily!!! You left out mom and dad too, but we won’t go there
Looking forward to addressing all these “weighty” issues in about 2 weeks. Love, mom

Didn’t think anyone cared about us adults so yes, we did leave that out, though I will say I’m easily and quickly back down to my pre-Jonathan weight and been back in my normal clothes for a month already. That is good but not great as that is the same as my post-Elizabeth weight, which was not good. I never did lose any of that pregnancy weight and I really don’t know why not. I lost all the others pretty easily, though Matthew’s was a little slower to melt away. As to Emily, she is in school all day. See what she misses here at home? –Melanie
