Vacation

We had a WONDERFUL week off from school - we went away w/o really going away if you know what I mean. My (Melanie’s) folks did some kind of timeshare trade to get us a really “cheap” (mud) week up at the Trapp Lodge in the guest houses, like we do at Christmas time, to be able to get out of the house and relax in familiar surroundings w/o going too far. Steve was able to work much of the week, and he took a couple days off, and we had amazing April weather - it was sunny and in the 70’s or high sixties every single day. The only “cold” day was in the low 60’s and partly cloudy with a stiff north wind on Saturday when we left. Still, it was amazing. (I think the general high for this time of year is in the 50s and it’s often cloudy and rainy - which means it could be in the 30s and 40s as easily as the 60s!) We saw flowers blooming, the grass was green, the leaves began to pop out, and the kids were able to play outside the whole time right out our door in plain view if I wanted or needed to be inside. Boy did we need a break, and boy was it nice. We swam (indoors) every day but one, we read stories, played games, baked, ate, watched a few movies, went fishing, fed the fish (cheerios), walked around, looked at snow (and watched it melt!), climbed the rock wall, listened to live jazz piano in the lounge playing cards, played ping pong and air hockey, ate out one evening, visited Stowe and Waterbury (including the church we got married in and Ben & Jerry’s, among other places) and so much more. It was SO relaxing. We could have gone skiing too but decided against it. :-) That wouldn’t have been so relaxing. Oh and we ran fevers (still not fever free - are we going on three months yet? soon I think) and Matthew got a tummy bug too but we really didn’t care. It was vacation and we were in denial that anybody could be sick when the weather was so nice (he was fine the next day and the fevers didn’t seem to affect anybody except for the general lack of appetite). Still it’s good to be home and we’ve enjoyed time outside, seeing friends, etc. School picks up again tomorrow, as do the doctor’s appointments and the chores. It was sure nice to get a break. Now to think about my yard and garden. Happy Spring!
