Apple Picking

The kids love to go apple picking each fall, but with Emily’s full day school schedule, it was tough trying to find a time to go as a family that didn’t stretch us too thin and wear her out. However we did decide to do a “token apple pick” one sunny afternoon in mid-September to pick a small bag just to include her (with intentions of me going back for a longer time w/the younger kids while she was a school someday - it never happened but that’s ok). Besides, we all five of us like eating apples so it’s nice to have really fresh tasty ones right off the tree.

Here we are apple picking. It was some of the best and easiest picking we’ve ever done.

This was an amazing time actually - we got a tiny little bag (like I said, it was a token pick). Every time we picked an apple, at least one, sometimes two or even more would fall off. It was raining apples! We had a lot of fun with that (especially Emily, who once made an apple fall right on my head when she picked one! She laughed really hard at that naturally, as did I). We ended up with quite a few more than anticipated (about three-four times as many), but that was ok. It took us about 10 minutes to pick them all, and most of that was trying to catch the falling ones and keep Elizabeth from shaking whole branches bare while still letting her pick one (or three or five . . . ).

Of course you have to get a honey stick while you’re there to enjoy, play in the morning glory teepee, check out the giant pumpkins, and pet the sheep (sorry, no pics of that one). Elizabeth responded “baa” nice and clear when they talked to her. Matthew was terrified of that at her age, but Elizabeth loved it!
