Missed Us Again
We would enjoy some of this “record snow” that’s fallen on the northeast in the past 24 hours . . . and missing us entirely. Not even a flake in the sky. Again. Both sets of grandparents have at least a foot and a half of fluffy white stuff. This must be the 5th or 6th time in the last two years. For that matter, we haven’t had a good snowstorm in probably four years or more. Emily and Matthew don’t know what 6+ inches is even like, let alone what it means to have to “dig out”! The last one I remember was the one in mid-April (probably 2001? Five years ago!) when we had enjoyed 60 degree weather in MA visiting the Tupaj grandparents (it was similar temps here at home) and there was a storm on the way home (nasty driving). I don’t think it had been forecast so we weren’t expecting it. We had to shovel 14″ or so to get into our driveway and get the car off the street, let alone unpack and get into the house. I don’t recall any storms at all since we moved into this house almost four years ago. There probably was a 6-inch storm or two a couple years ago, but they weren’t memorable, and we certainly didn’t get that much in one single weather event last winter or this one. What we got this year - in 2-4 inch increments - it was beautiful! - all washed away with the warm rains and temps we had in January (a two-week long forty plus degree thaw . . . ). Not that we minded the mild temps for a time but it’s now cold again. (Though in my opinion the mild winters harbor more germs and everyone gets sicker. The freezing temps keep the viruses at bay). The winter carnival at Emily’s school has been rescheduled two times with the current date as “whenever we get any snow, if we do!” (postponed indefinitely is the official status . . . with a comment along the lines of “we couldn’t get mother nature to cooperate so now we’re asking old man winter for a hand . . . “) Can you tell we’d like some snow?! I mean if it’s going to be cold enough, let’s at least have some white to cover the ground and go play on/in. The grass is pretty ugly. So, for all you who have some snow, please enjoy it for us. And if you can, send a little our way!
