It’s been a busy couple weeks, lots to share and lots to do! I am tackling a few “loose ends” today, such as sorting thru and boxing up winter things. We have four boxes just for winter “shoes” like ice skates, boots, ski boots and the like. Granted, two of the boxes are small, but one is huge (heavy too) and the other a pretty good size. It’s a large stack regardless of quantity. Yikes - 6 people is a LOT of winter gear, esp. when you have two genders (and we do as much unisex as possible!), and need to hang onto sizes you’re not using since you’ll still need them “next year”. I’ve learned the hard way to inventory it b/c it’s all stored in the attic, completely out of my reach and so I sit down here seeing sales on high-quality used coats (or clearance on new ones!) wondering “let’s see, who needs a winter coat this year . . .” and I have no idea.
Today was the last day of school; the kids are enjoying the free afternoon (each one has a play date - one here and one at a friend’s house). The past few weeks have comprised of kindergarten musical performances, year-end parties, “summer birthday” celebrations, teachers gifts, picnics, tea parties, and much more. It’s been fun and boy are we ready for the break and excited to have everyone home . . . and yet Emily’s already eagerly anticipating her 3rd grade teacher and the experience she’ll have next year . . . Matthew’s excited to be a “first grader” but is hardly thinking about school at this point. He just wants to play with his cars. Jonathan is hard to keep anywhere; he’s a lot of unbridled and undisciplined energy who prefers anything outside to inside. He’s able to get thru the baby gate on his own (that’s been the case for almost two months now), open the screen doors and let himself outside, and most recently escaped from the church nursery without anyone even noticing (hardly their fault - I’m thinking of nicknaming the kid Houdini). And Elizabeth eagerly discusses with Daddy “how many more days until you stay home for two days?” And boy does she get excited when he doesn’t go to work in the morning! It’s fun to watch her growing comprehension of things. Oh yes, and when there’s “nothing else to do” (which seems like 5 out of every 7 nights), we watch the Red Sox play baseball. They’re having a good year and the kids can (and will) tell you all about it if you want to ask them!
I’m off to sort mittens and coats and the like. Hopefully we’ll get some of the piles of boxes tamed in the next few days and be ready to “sit back and relax” to enjoy the lovely summer weather and being home together (and catch up the other things we’re behind on!).
